The Virginia Composting Council is dedicated to the development, expansion, and promotion of the composting industry based upon sound science, principles of sustainability, and economic viability.

CONNECT

The Virginia Composting Council is a network of compost champions with the common goal of advancing compost awareness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Members of the council include composting facilities large and small, operational and logistics teams, and community supporters. Together with the VCC, these individuals are able to connect and collaborate to advance the composting industry at a local level.

EDUCATE

The VCC attends and supports conferences, expos, events, and festivals across the state to increase compost awareness. Educating the public about organics recycling will continue to bring awareness to the benefits of composting. Turning leftover food scraps, yard waste, and other organic materials in to high quality compost requires behavior change and the VCC will continue to educate our communities about the benefits of composting to further its mission.

EXPAND

The VCC works to expand compost manufacturing, compost utilization, and organics recycling opportunities to benefit our members, society, and the environment. From home compost piles and curbside pickup to commercial facilities and final, expanding composting opportunities for will continue to reduce the amount of organic material headed for the landfill. Providing a strong pipeline of high quality finished compost back in to the ground will help keep soils healthy and productive.

ADVOCATE

The ground beneath our feet—amended with rich microbes that encourage plant growth and sequester carbon—is the reason we are here. We are also businesses, organizations, and individuals whose livelihoods come from this life-giving work. The VCC supports state and federal initiatives that further the mission of the USCC.
